William Dodd, Vicar of Bourne and Mrs. Dodd.
Though the younger
William Dodd is the better known, his father, William was vicar of Bourne from
1727 to 1756. He died 6th August, 1756 and the bare facts of his
life are recorded on a ledger stone where he may be buried, a few metres
north-east of the font in Bourne
Abbey Church. Since the year of his death, this part of the floor has been
lowered so the stone is not undisturbed.
Also, one of the
bells in the tower there bears his name; William Dod Vicar and the date MDCCXXVIIII.
